Water Vapour Permeability(WVP) Tester

Water Vapour Permeability Tester is also referred to as the WVP tester, which is used to determine the water vapor permeability of leather and textiles.

It is applicable to all kinds of leather and textiles but particularly suitable for the assessment of leather and textiles for footwear applications.

Test Principle

The specimen is secured over the opening of a jar containing a certain quantity of solid desiccant. The jar is positioned in a strong current of air in a conditioned atmosphere. The air inside the jar is constantly stirred by the desiccant, which is kept in movement by the rotation of the jar. The jar is weighted in order to evaluate the mass of the moisture that has passed through the test piece and has been absorbed by the desiccant.

Water Vapour Permeability Test Procedure

  1. Fix the test piece over the opening of the jar which contains a desiccant.
  2. Put the jar on balance to weigh and record the mass.
  3. Open the hood of the testing machine, and attach the jars to the holders of the turnplate and screw up to ensure fixing firmly.
  4. Actuate the machine and starting counting.
  5. The machine stops upon arrival at the scheduled time.
  6. Dismount the jar, weigh them again and record the value for comparison with previous value to evaluate water vapor permeability.
  • Model AT-L9014 is without a temperature and humidity control chamber. Users only need to ensure the temperature and humidity of the laboratory is (23 ± 2)℃, (50 ± 5)% RH or as per test standard.
  • Model AT-L9014-A is configured with a temperature and humidity conditioning chamber.
  • Leather pre-flexing machine AT-L9002 Bally Flexometer is optional.
