The test space features an enclosed vacuum chamber. When its internal air pressure is reduced to a specific value, the environment in which the sample is located is equivalent to that at the altitude corresponding to the air pressure value. Lithium-ion cells or batteries usually require a test air pressure of 11.6 KPa, equivalent to an altitude of 15,000 meters. Our high altitude simulation test chamber can provide air pressure ranging from 5 KPa to 101.3 KPa to meet your different testing requirements.

The control area of our high altitude low pressure test chamber is equipped with a high-definition LCD touch screen controlled by PLC man-machine interface. First of all, as we know, the UN38.3 certificate is the passport for all lithium metal and lithium-ion batteries or products containing lithium metal or lithium-ion batteries to board a cargo aircraft for air transportation. High altitude low-pressure test is one of the essential test items in the UN38.3 test standard.

Secondly, lithium-ion batteries’ application is becoming more extensive, especially since many portable electronic devices such as mobile phones, laptops, wearable watches, etc., basically use lithium-ion batteries as power sources. When we fly, we inevitably carry these devices with us or store them separately in the cargo hold of the aircraft along with other luggage. Therefore, we need to carry out relevant safety tests on the lithium-ion batteries in these products in advance to ensure that they can be transported at such a high altitude safely and to verify whether these devices can still work normally after being stored in the low-pressure environment for a period of time.

  • Put the test cells or batteries into the inner chamber of the altitude simulation tester at an ambient temperature of (20±5)℃ and then close the door.

  • Power on and use the touch screen to preset the test pressure of 11.6 KPa and pressure hold time of 6 hours, then start the test.

  • When the time is up, the equipment will automatically stop. Turn on the pressure relief switch. After the pressure inside the chamber is released, open the door to observe the change in the sample.

  • Specimens are qualifiedif there is no leakage, no venting, no disassembly, no rupture and no fire and if the open-circuit voltage of each test cell or battery after testing is not less than 90% of its voltage immediately before this process. The requirement relating to voltage is not applicable to test cells and batteries at fully discharged states.
