Whole Footwear Water Resistance Tester is intended to determine the waterproofness of a complete shoe under the artificially mechanical action in a specified depth of water.

A whole shoe is placed in a certain depth of water, subjected to the mechanical action of rotating wetted brushes in specified cycles back and forth. The operator observes or checks with absorbent paper to know whether there is water infiltration inside the test piece or weighs the test piece before and after the test to determine the water resistance.

Different from the dynamic shoe waterproof testing machine, the shoe tested on this machine is in the static state during the test, and the sole does not need to be bent.

Footwear Water Penetration Tester Features

Main Parts of  a Shoe Water Resistance Machine

  1. A test piece clamping device: Allowing the test piece to be fixed firmly during the test.
  2. Two horizontally rotating brushes are located on either side of the test sample, whose opposing distance can be adjusted according to the footwear size.
  3. Spraying system: The distance between every jet nozzle is 50 mm with a flow gauge to measure the water flow.
  4. Standard helicoidal brushes: With a center pole of 80 mm in diameter and 140 mm in length and 10 layer bristles.
  5. A water tank for loading apparatus and with a constant water level device.

Test Procedure

  1. Weigh the test piece sensitive to 0.1 g, record it as M, secure the test piece to the sample clamp, seal the top of the shoe with a rubber filler in case of water splashing in, then fix the sample unit into the machine.
  2. Adjust the horizontal distance between two rotating brushes to cause the whole vamp to be contacted with brushes’ bristles.
  3. Fill the water tank with water to 20 mm above the specimen support, maintaining a constant height.
  4. Set the spraying from jet nozzles and adjust the supply of water to keep a constant level.
  5. The determination period can be set at 1 min, 5 min, 10 min, 30 min, 60 min, etc.
  6. Stop the test when at the end of specified measuring time, then take out the test piece, dry the surface of specimen immediately, remove the water insulation rubber, visually examine the interior of the test piece, or inspect whether permeation occurs inside the shoe using an absorbent paper.
  7. Reweigh the test sample to an accuracy of 0.1 g at the end of drying and water infiltration examination.
