Outsole Belt Flexing Tester is a footwear testing machine designed to determine the resistance of the outsole to flexing, namely the ability of the outsole to resist the crack and growth of cracking when subjected to repeated flexing.

It is mainly applicable to all kinds of flexible outsoles whose insection height is more than 2.5 mm.

Test Principle

Non-leather outsoles are pasted or stitched on the surface of the canvas belt. The belt is then put on the two rotating rollers of the machine. The test outsole is bent along with the rotation of the rollers after starting the engine. After a certain number of bendings, the damage or fracture of the outsole is inspected to understand its bending resistance. The rotation of the belt is driven by the machine’s large wheel, The small wheel has three different diameters for selection and replacement to obtain flexing tests with different curvatures for comparison.

Test Procedure

  1. Choose a proper driven wheel based on the softness and thickness of the specimen and mount it into the machine.
  2. Attach the belt with the test piece to the two wheels to ensure the top of the shoe towards the driving wheel.
  3. Adjust to a proper tightness of belt and set the number of flexing.
  4. Start the machine, the operation stops automatically until reaching the set cycles.
  5. Remove the belt from the machine and inspect whether cracking occurs and the severity of the damage. If it happens, recording the exact values of length, depth, position.
  6. Reset the flexing number and continue to test.
