The laboratory plastic pelletizing line is a device used to melt polymer raw materials such as plastics or rubber in the laboratory and then make uniform granules through extrusion, cutting and other steps for subsequent testing and application analysis. Different from production-type granulator machines, the laboratory small granulation extrusion line is more compact in design, with higher control accuracy and more convenient operation. It is mainly used for small-scale material research and development, testing and process optimization, and is suitable for mixing and processing experiments of engineering plastics, modified plastics, waste plastics and masterbatches.

Working Principle

The polymer raw materials are heated, plasticized, mixed, sheared, compacted and degassed to become a uniform melt, and are forced through the openings of the die under the extrusion of the twin screws to obtain round strips. After being water-cooled in a cooling water tank or air-cooled, they are cut by a pelletizer to obtain plastic particles.

The lab twin-screw granulating extrusion line consists of an extruding machine, cooling device, traction device, cutting device, control system, etc. The extruder plays a core role in the entire granulation production line. It is mainly used to convert raw materials into strip materials of specified cross-section in a molten state. Its core component is the screw, which is responsible for the transportation, compression, melting and homogenization of plastics. The material of the screw of our machine is imported alloy steel W6M05Cr4V2. The overall hardness reaches HRC58-62 degrees after vacuum heat treatment. It has large torque, good dispersion, and reduces the contamination of materials by screw wear.

The two screws are arranged in parallel and rotate in the same direction. The screw adopts the building block principle design. The threaded assembly is connected with the core shaft involute spline, which is convenient for disassembly and assembly. You can flexibly adjust the screw aspect ratio, screw arrangement, exhaust quantity and position, and feeding method according to the processing materials and process formula requirements, and further optimize and rationally configure to meet different material and process requirements. At the same time, on the basis of the parallel twin-screw building block structure, a self-cleaning module is added. Through the powerful pushing force of the self-cleaning module, the residue at the front end of the screw can be cleaned, avoiding the probability of contamination in the next round of tests, greatly improving the accuracy and efficiency of the test. According to the user’s production capacity needs and material characteristics, we can provide screw diameters of different sizes including 25mm, 35 mm, 40 mm, 45 mm, etc.

The barrel is also made of high-quality wear-resistant alloy steel. It adopts a segmented structural design, each section is 120 mm long, with segmented heating and independent control functions. There is a water channel in the barrel to allow the material to be cooled when needed. The hopper is made of stainless steel and is equipped with a window to know whether feeding is needed when the machine is running. The feeding speed is controlled by a pair of independent feeding screws, which can be set freely, and it can work in conjunction with the screws in the barrel according to the set ratio to accurately control the supply of materials.

The control system uses a German Siemens PLC touch screen as the human-machine interface. There are different virtual buttons on the LCD display for users to input various parameters such as temperature and speed and issue operating instructions by touching their fingers, and display the current parameters and the operating status of the machine in real time. The humanized interface design is intuitive and easy to understand, which is convenient for users to operate and use.

The small water cooled strand pelletizing line is equipped with a water bath. The strands extruded from the extruder die head pass through and are immersed in water to achieve the purpose of cooling. The cooled product passes through the pelletizer to obtain pellets with neat cross-sections. The equipment has low cost, simple operation and easy maintenance. It is suitable for filling modified plastics, masterbatches, and engineering plastic alloys.

The small air-cooled hot-cut twin-screw extrusion pelletizing line is equipped with a special air-cooled hot-cut pelletizer and air delivery system. There is no water contact during the whole process of operation to avoid water absorption and deterioration of the material, and the obtained pellets are cashew-shaped or round flakes with uniform particle size. The machine is suitable for highly filled masterbatches, degradable materials, wood-plastic composite materials and water-sensitive materials.

The small underwater twin-screw pelletizing line is equipped with an underwater pelletizing head, a water circulation system and a dehydration device. The extrudate is enclosed during the entire operation process, the pellets are free of dust pollution, and are fully cooled. The pellets are rounded spherical or elliptical with high dimensional accuracy. This machine is suitable for the pelletizing of thermoplastic elastomers (TPE/TPU), high-transparency PP, ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene and other materials.
