Blowing sand and dust test chamber

High-performance IP5X & IP6X Dust Chamber

The Blowing Sand and Dust Test Chamber is engineered to perform IP5X (IP5KX) and IP6X (IP6KX) ingress protection testing. By utilizing vertical circulation airflow, the chamber exposes specimens to a rigorously simulated dust environment. This process evaluates the equipment’s ability to resist the penetration of fine particles over a specified duration. As a critical component of the Ingress Protection (IP) testing suite, this chamber is ideal for assessing automotive components, seal assemblies, electronic instruments, gas meters, and outdoor lighting.

Superior Construction & Design

The chamber features a sealed cabinet constructed with a mirror-finish stainless steel interior to minimize dust adhesion. To ensure consistent testing conditions, talcum powder is continuously circulated, lingering around the specimen to simulate real-world exposure. The bottom of the cabinet is designed as a funnel to collect falling powder, which a high-performance circulation blower then redistributes through a dedicated piping system. This maintains a uniform suspension of dust throughout the test cycle.

To prevent powder agglomeration and ensure smooth flow to the collection port, an integrated vibrator is attached to the funnel. Additionally, a built-in heating system prevents dust from caking due to humidity. For real-time monitoring, the chamber door is equipped with a tempered glass viewing window and a manual wiper, allowing for unobstructed observation of the specimen during operation.

Advanced Vacuum Simulation for Realistic Results

For enclosures that experience internal pressure drops during operation, the chamber is configured with a comprehensive vacuum system. This system—comprising a pump, valve, airflow meter, dust filter, and manometer—simulates realistic environmental stresses. The system can be adjusted to draw air volumes up to 80 times the enclosure’s volume, with an extraction rate not exceeding 60 volumes per hour and a maximum vacuum pressure of 2 kPa.

Intelligent PLC Control

Powered by a PLC module, the chamber offers intelligent control over the dust blower, vibrator, and test durations. Users can easily input parameters via a 7-inch touchscreen, allowing for precise customization of dust-blowing intervals and cycle times. The system displays both set and real-time values, operating automatically according to the programmed sequence. Upon completion, an integrated alarm notifies the user.

FAQs

A chamber designed to expose a device under test to a controlled dust environment to evaluate its resistance to dust ingress. It typically simulates dust exposure using standardized dust or a surrogate (e.g., talcum powder, silica dust) and may vary by standard.

The dust ingress test is defined under IEC 60529 (IP Code). Specific dust tests and requirements can vary by region and application (e.g., IP5X, IP6X tests). Some industries may follow additional standards such as ISO 20653 or military specs.

IP5X means protection against dust at levels that do not fully prevent ingress but do not interfere with the device’s operation. IP6X indicates a higher level of dust protection where dust ingress is not allowed to penetrates in a way that would harm operation.

Tests may use standardized test dust or calibration dust specified by the standard or by the manufacturer. Some tests use talcum powder or specially graded synthetic dust; Remember to always follow the standard or supplier guidance.

The device under test is placed inside the chamber, exposed to a controlled dust atmosphere for a specified duration, dust concentration, and air flow. The chamber may include dust feeders, air pumps, heating and vibration. The exact cycle parameters depend on the standard and the instrument.

Yes, Our dust chamber can be used for laboratory verification and production testing if required. For high-volume production, prioritize reliability, repeatability, automation options, and easy cleaning/part replacement.

Keep the equipment clean during and after use. After testing, remove the sample and clean the dust from the chamber. Replace the dust promptly when the dust level is insufficient to meet testing requirements. inspecting seals and periodic recalibration are also important.

Dust testing typically uses dry dust – talcum powder. According to relevant standards, a batch of talcum powder should not be used more than 20 times. Regularly check the talcum powder for obvious lumps, dampness, or visible foreign matter (such as hair or large particles). Replace it immediately if any abnormalities are found.

After completing an experiment using the dust chamber, never open the chamber door immediately. Otherwise, the suspended dust inside will escape and fill the entire laboratory, not only soiling other equipment but also posing a health risk if inhaled. Generally, after the test is completed, allow the chamber to stand for several hours until all the dust has settled before opening the door to remove the samples.
