Spectacle Lens Abrasion Tester is used to determine the abrasion resistance of uncut finished spectacle lenses surfaces claimed to provide a basic level of wear resistance including those with coatings.
The Lens surface abrasion tester comes with a set of rod-shaped abrasion tool. The abrasion tool consists of an indicator rod, a plunger, a chuck, an eraser, a body and a cap.
The plunger is able to move vertically up and down during the test. The lower end of the plunger is equipped with a chuck holding an eraser. The eraser is covered with cotton cheesecloth which has been folded a prescribed number of times. The upper end of the plunger carries a scale indicating the piston of the plunger within the body. A force of 5±1 N is applied to the specimen surface when the body is held vertically and the scale marking is in its required position.

A spectacle lenses to be tested is required to be firmly fixed on the movable platform capable of moving with a 30 mm stroke. The lens surface is rubbed against the cloth under the specified load as the platform moves at a rate of 1 cycle per second. And the abrasive end always follows the curvature of the lens during the rubbing process. During the test, you need to inspect the lens surface for any visible scratches.
In addition, We have equipped the machine with an additional grinding tool for the enhanced test, which is capable of applying a load of 750 g to the lens surface and allows the use of steel wool as a abrasion medium to rub the lens surface.
